Garrett and I met sophomore year at the library while we were attending college. We were in completely different places at the time and a relationship did not form until a few years later. Over the next couple of years God worked in our hearts and when we crossed paths again two years later we clicked instantly. We got to know each other’s hearts very quickly and realized we both wanted to serve God and make him known. After three months of dating we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
We decided to wait at least a year to get engaged to deepen our relationship. At around the one year mark I was expecting him to propose but was not expecting what he had planned. We were out on a lunch date together and in the middle of our date I was kidnapped by some of our friends. They were dressed like secret service agents. They took me to all the significant spots of our most memorable dates. At each location a person was waiting with a love poem leading me to my next clue and next location. The last and final clue lead me to the location of our very first date, Seven-Islands Bird Watching Park in Knoxville, TN. Garret had laid out stones that spelled out verses from 1 Corinthians 13. I followed a path up to this little white house and there were candles everywhere. All of our closest friends were there and one of them was playing worship music with Garret's guitar. His friend prayed over us and after the prayer Garret proposed to me and asked me to be his wife.
Garrett is my best friend and everyday is a new adventure with him. I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with him. The most precious thing about our wedding day was the moment when we said our vows to one another. Hearing our promises and committing our wholes lives to one another was the best part of the whole day. It is something we can look back on and remember with clarity, especially when times get hard between us.
