TIPS TO PLAN YOUR OUTFITS FOR YOUR SESSION - OUTFIT GUIDE
It's time for your session and you juuuuust thought about outfits... shiz. That's aaaaaa-okay! I've got you covered. ;)
Hands down, the longest email I always send my clients is typically the one that includes locations + outfit selections. Over the years I've been compiling a list of suuuuper simple things that seem to work really well for outfits for my clients. I promise, this will be less stressful than trying to navigate through the never-ending Pinterest outfit ideas. Sooooo, lucky you, I've listed below some practical + easy ways to pick out your outfits without stressing too much!
There are just a few main parts that go into picking out your outfit which include: color, style and comfort.
COLOR
You’ll want to pick out an earth tone color palette (if you’re struggling to find one you like, go to my instagram page and look through the “Color Palettes” Highlight section). Try to stay away from bright prints or busy patterns and go with more subtle colors. If you do choose to go with a pattern, make sure it's subtle or is in neutral colors so that it's not what you eye is drawn to in the pictures. I want you guys to be THE STARS of your photos, not the pattern on your outfit. ;)
Another tiny hint, try choosing a color palette that doesn’t have similar colors that will be present at your location. One example would be, don’t wear cranberry, orange or yellow during the fall. You’ll only blend in with the pretty fall leaves. Instead wear an emerald green, cream, or a steal blue.
For Kelsey + Drew's session in the photo above, they did a great job picking out outfits! They decided to go with a neutral palette of cream, light blue, black with brown accents since their location was mainly green + tan.
Then Rebecca + Jason in the picture below, they chose to go with a light blue with a pop of red since the location we were using for their engagement session was mainly grey.
STYLE
Styleeeeee! Man oh man, this is the fun part! Wear a similar style to what you wear on a regular basis. Your outfit needs to match the location you picked out! If you spend time picking the aesthetic of your session by the location, make sure your outfits are in line with the style of the location you chose! You will not want to wear a tight-fitting formal gown to a location that we have to hike to.
One more tidbit on style: flowing lines are a girl's best friend! Not only does it makes for a gorgeous, dramatic looking photo (which I'm allllllways OBSESSED with), but it's flattering and creates some AWESOME movement in the picture! Gimme alllllll the flowy skirts and dresses.
*insert heart eye emojis here* ;)
COMFORT
Comfort, comfort, comfort!! Kind of a branch off of the importance of style; wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in! If you're uncomfortable in the selected outfit, or if you are fidgeting to keep your outfit in its place, it will more than likely show in your pictures. Sooooo pleaseeeeee wear something that you feel like a bad-apple in and that you feel 100000% comfortable with AND that allows for movement! I will likely have you guys run towards me holding hands, have you run and jump up on him or have him toss you over his shoulder! So you're gonna want to be able to move freely in your outfit! Otherwise, we maaaaay not have as much fun. ;)
